Our Solar System
| Term | Definition |

| inner planets | The four smaller, dense, rocky planets that are closest to the sun. |
| moon | A celestial body that revolves around a body that is larger in mass. |
| outer planets | The four larger, less dense planets that are furthest from the sun (gas giants). |
| Planet | A celestial body that orbits the sun, is round due to its own gravity, and has cleared the neighborhood around its orbital path. |
| Planetesimal | A small body from which a planet originated in the early stages of the development of the solar system. |
| Protoplanet | Bodies formed from the collision of planetesmials. |
| Sol | The name of our star (the sun). |
| solar nebula | A rotating cloud of dust and gas from which the sun and planets formed. |
| solar system | The sun and all of the planets and other bodies that travel around it. |
