Evolution

TermDefinition
Evolution The process in which inherited characteristics within a population change over generations such that new species sometimes arise
Variation The occurrence of hereditary or non hereditary differences between different individuals of a population
Adaption An inherited trait that improves an individual's ability to survive and reproduce in a particular environment
Artificial selection The human practice of breeding animals or plants that have certain desired traits.
Natural selection The process by which individuals that are better adapted to their environment survive and reproduce more successfully than less well adapted individuals do.
Charles Darwin Was a british naturalist who helped develop the theory of evolution by natural selection
Survival of the Fittest If mutations are favorable, the organism will have a better chance to live long enough to Reproduce and pass on that mutation to its offspring.
