Where are the strongest effects of an earthquake felt? Areas, closest to the epicenter of an earthquake experience the greatest damage.
True or False Earthquakes take place where tectonic plates transfer energy to the surrounding rock. True
Why do earthquakes happen? Rocks move along a fault and release energy.
What can generate a earthquake? Plates slide together and energy builds up/Movement of tectonic plates along a fault
After an earthquake but before another earthquake happens, what is happening underground? Energy, stress, and tension builds up.
What is the difference between the focus and the epicenter of an earthquake? Focus= Is a place within Earth along a fault at which the first motion of an earthquake occurs. Epicenter= Directly above focus.
