Day/Night cycle
| Term | Definition |

| rotate (rotation) | to turn or spin on its axis |
| axis | the imaginary line around which Earth rotates |
| revolve (revolution) | to go around, or obit another object |
| orbit | the path of one object in space around another object |
| day/night cycle | created by the rotation of the Earth facing toward or facing away form the sun |
| one day | the time it takes Earth to complete one rotation around its axis |
| one year | the time it takes the Earth to complete one revolution around the sun |
| sunrise/sunset | the time in the morning/evening when the sun appears/disappears on the horizon |
| atmosphere | a layer of gases that surround an object in space |
| gravity | a force which tried to pull two objects toward each other. Anything which has mass also has a gravitational pull. |
| satellite | when an object in space orbits the Earth or another planet |
