| Geocentric Theory | The theory that the Earth was the center of the universe |
| Heliocentric Theory | The theory that the sun was the center of the Solar System |
| Astronomy | The science of observing the sky |
| solar system | a sun with planets and other objects in orbit around it |
| coment | a mass of frozen gas, cosmic dust, ice crystals, and organic material whose orbit around the sun takes it outside the solar system |
| gravity | a force of attraction between two objects |

| axis | an imaginary line that runs through an object |
| tilt | the angle of the earths axis (27.5) |

| autumnal equinox | the equinox in autumn, on about September 22 |
| summer solstice | the solstice that marks the onset of summer, at the time of the longest day, about June 21 |
| winter solstice | the solstice that marks the onset of winter, at the time of the shortest day, about December 22 |
