biome A group of plants and animals that live in a particular region because they are suited to that region’s physical environment.
tundra A biome consisting of largeflat areas of land in the north of Europe, Asia, and North America. The ground below the top layer of soil is always frozen and no trees grow there.
taiga A biome of thick forest in the far north of Europe, Asia, and North America, situated immediately south of the tundra.
temperate forest A biome in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres that has four seasons and is home to many plant and animal species.
tropical rain forest A biome near the Earth’s equator that is warm and wet.
characteristic A feature or quality that is typical of a person, place, or thing
properties The characteristics or qualities that are typical of a place, an object, or a group of objects.
climate The weather conditions that are typical of a certain region.
precipitation Rain, snow, or hail.
centimeter A unit of length in the metric system equal to ten millimeters or one hundredth of a meter.
annual Quantities or rates that are related to a period of one year.
organisms Plants or animals, including ones so small you cannot see them without using a microscope.
abundant Something that is present in large quantities.
determine To discover it as a result of investigation.
