How Rocks Form
| Term | Definition |

| Crust | Is the outer areas of land. |
| Rock | Is a solid material made up of one or more minerals. |
| Mineral | Is a solid material found in Earth's crust that has a definite chemical makeup. |
| Mantle | Is a thick layer of rock between the crust and the core. |
| Core | Is a dense ball with a liquid outer part and a solid inner part. |
| Igneous Rock | Is rock that forms when melted, or molten, rock that forms when melted, or molten, rock from Earth's mantle cools and hardens. |
| Sedimentary Rock | Is rock that forms when sand, particles of rock, bits of soil, and remains of once-living things harden. |
| Sediment | Breaking rock into sediment is called weathering. |
| Metamorphic Rock | Is new rock that forms when existing rocks are changes by heat, pressure, or chemicals beneath Earth's surface. |
| Rock Cycle | Scientist call the continuous series of changes that rocks go through the rock cycle. |
