Atmosphere Vocab

TermDefinition
Atmosphere Layer of gases surrounding a planet or moon
Air Pressure The measure of the force with which air molecules are pressing down on you
Troposphere The layer of the atmosphere that we live in. Has all weather. Densest. Most air pressure. Thickest.
Stratosphere The layer of the atmosphere that the ozone layer is found in. Gases here are arranged into layers Temperature begins to increase as you get higher instead of decrease.
Mesosphere The coldest layer of the atmosphere. We know the least about this layer. Meteorites burn up in this layer.
Thermosphere The hottest layer of the atmosphere. Contains two layers. The least dense and thinnest layer.
Ions An atom or molecule that is a negatively electrically charged particle.
Ionosphere The lower layer of the thermosphere. This layer is made up of ions. Radio waves travel here, and auroras occur here
Auroras When speeding electrons collide with gas molecules and make them release color in a stunning display. Happens in ionosphere.
