TermDefinition
Rock the solid mineral material forming part of the surface of the earth and other similar planets, exposed on the surface or underlying the soil or oceans.
Erosion the gradual destruction or diminution of something.
Deposition the process of giving sworn evidence.
composition the nature of something's ingredients or constituents; the way in which a whole or mixture is made up.
texture the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance.
strata layers of rock
stratification the process in which sedimentary rocks are arranged in layers
foliated the texture of metamorphic rock in which the mineral grains are arranged in planes or bands.
Non-foliated the texture of metamorphic rock in which the mineral grains are not arranged in planes or bands
Recrystallization the process in which grains of a crystal structure come in new structure or new crystal shape.
Deformation the action or process of changing in shape or distorting, especially through the application of pressure.
intrusive igneous formed through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava.
Extrusive igneous form when magma reaches the Earth's surface a volcano and cools quickly.
Metamorphism alteration of the composition or structure of a rock by heat, pressure, or other natural agency.
Regional metamorphism metamorphism affecting rocks over an extensive area as a result of the large-scale action of heat and pressure
contact metamorphism metamorphism due to contact with or proximity to an igneous intrusion.
