Matter Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Matter anything that takes up space and has mass
Element material that cannot be broken down into anything simpler
Atom the smallest unit of an element that retains the properties of that element
Nucleus the center of an atom; the center includes protons and neutrons
Protons found in the nucleus; positive charge
Neutrons found in the nucleus; no charge
Electrons found outside the nucleus; negative charge
Molecules particles with more then one atom joined together
