Metamorphic Rocks

QuestionAnswer
How do metamorphic rocks form? They are formed by excessive heat and pressure. Mineral grains melt and cool, realign themselves.
What does foliated mean? Mineral Grains in bands or layers
What does non-foliated mean? Mineral grains showing no banding/layers.
What is a parent rock? Before excessive heat and pressur.
What is a daughter rock? After excessive heat and pressure, current metamorphic rock.
Who is the parent ot marble? Limestone
Who is the parent tp Quartzite? Sandstone
WHo is the parent to Slate? Shale
Who is the parent to Gneiss? White Granite
What is Schist? The transitional stage.
