Igneous Rocks
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| How to do Igneous Rocks form? | They form by cooling lava (outside surface) or cooling magma (inside surface) |
| What are the three types of Lava/Magma (compository) (classifying)? | Felsic/Granitic , Andesitic, and Mafic/Basaltic |
| What does Felsic/Granitic mean? | Light weight, High Si and O, Low Fe and Mg, Less dense, light colors. |
| What does Andesitic mean? | Medium weight, medium color, more equal amounts of Si, O Fe, Mg, Medium denisity. |
| What does Mafic/Basaltic mean? | Heavy weight, Darm color, High Fe, High Mg, Low Si, Low O, More density |
| What does Crystal Size mea? | The amount of cooling time |
| What does longer cooling time mean? | Larger Crystals |
| What does shorter cooling time mean? | Smaller crystals |
| What does Intrustive mean? | Form inside or near Earth's surface, has longer cooling time, Big crystals have developed. (Magma) |
| What does Extrusive mean? | Forms outside or on Earth's surface (in air too), Short cooling time, Small or nearly no crystals. (Lava) |
| What does Porphy mean? | Large crystals in a fine grain matrix. |
