QuestionAnswer
Continental crust The crust that forms the continents, it is a lower density than the oceanic crust and floats above it.
Converging boundary The region where plates collide - eg the Ring of Fire around the Pacific Ocean, also India and Asia
Diverging boundary Where plates are moving apart - eg the mid-Atlantic ridge or the Rift Valley of East Africa which includes the Red sea and the Dead Sea of Israel.
GPS Ground station A receiver and computer that can detect satellite signals and calculate its position on the Earth's surface ie GPS-Global Positioning System
Island Arc A chain of islands formed at the subduction zone of colliding tectonic plates eg Japan
Subduction When the denser oceanic plate slides beneath the less dense continental plate - usually associated with volcanoes.
Transform boundary Where boundaries slip past each other as per the San Andreas Fault on the West Coast of the United States of America
Oceanic Crust The dense crust forming the ocean floors
