| Continental crust | The crust that forms the continents, it is a lower density than the oceanic crust and floats above it. |
| Converging boundary | The region where plates collide - eg the Ring of Fire around the Pacific Ocean, also India and Asia |
| Diverging boundary | Where plates are moving apart - eg the mid-Atlantic ridge or the Rift Valley of East Africa which includes the Red sea and the Dead Sea of Israel. |
| GPS Ground station | A receiver and computer that can detect satellite signals and calculate its position on the Earth's surface ie GPS-Global Positioning System |
| Island Arc | A chain of islands formed at the subduction zone of colliding tectonic plates eg Japan |
| Subduction | When the denser oceanic plate slides beneath the less dense continental plate - usually associated with volcanoes. |
| Transform boundary | Where boundaries slip past each other as per the San Andreas Fault on the West Coast of the United States of America |
| Oceanic Crust | The dense crust forming the ocean floors |
