Figurative Language Flashcards

SImile Compares two unlike things using like or as.
Metaphor Compares two unlike things not using like or as.
Personifucation A figure of speech in which something is given human qualities.
Aliteration Repeated use of a constant sound/Tongue Twisters
Onomatopoeia A word formed by the sound associated with its name.
Allusion An indirect or passing reference to something the reader should recognize.
Idiom A group of words whose meaning is not predicable from the usual meaning.
Pun A joke playing on the possible meanings of words.
Hyperbole Exaggerated statements or claims not to be taken literally.
