TermDefinition
Compostitional Layers 4 compostitional layers; crust, mantle, outer core, inner core. (3 layers according to the book)
Crust Top compostitional layer. Contains oxygen, silicon, and aluminum.
Mantle Middle compostitional layer. Hot, slow-flowing, solid rock.
Core Inner compostitional layer. 1/3 of of Earth's mass, and made of iron and nickel.
Lithosphere The whole crust and part of the mantle. Is divided into tectonic plates.
Tectonic Plates Pieces of the lithosphere that float on the asthenosphere: collide, pull apart, and slide past each-other.
