Energy Section #3

TermDefinition
electricity a form of energy that is created when electrons are carried through wires and used to operate machines, lights, etc. (electric current)
electromagnet a magnet created by wrapping a current-carrying wire around an iron core
electric motor a device that uses a magnetic field to turn electrical energy into mechanical-kinetic energy (electricity --> motion)
generator a device that uses a magnetic field to turn mechanical-kinetic energy into electrical energy (motion --> electricity)
turbine a huge wheel that rotates when pushed by wind, water, or steam
electric circuit a closed, conducting loop in which an electric current can flow continually
manipulated variable the variable that you MEAN to change between test groups
independent variable the variable that you observe or measure (as a result of the manipulated variable)
