| Term | Definition |

| Erosion | The process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other natural agents. |
| Glaciers | A slowly moving mass or river of ice formed by the accumulation and compaction of snow on mountains or near the poles. |
| Environment | The surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates. |
| Weather | The state of the atmosphere at a place and time as regards heat, dryness, sunshine, wind, rain, etc. |
| Sediments | Particulate matter that is carried by water or wind and deposited on the surface of the land or the bottom of a body of water, and may in time become consolidated into rock. |
| Clay | A stiff, sticky fine-grained earth, typically yellow, red, or bluish-gray in color and often forming an impermeable layer in the soil. |
| Soil | The upper layer of earth in which plants grow, a black or dark brown material typically consisting of a mixture of organic remains, clay, and rock particles. |
| Abrasion | The process of scraping or wearing away. |
| Thermal Expansion/ contraction | Materials expand or contract when subjected to changes in temperature |
| Freeze/ thaw | Also called frost-shattering as it occurs in cold climates when temperatures are often around freezing point and where exposed rocks contain many cracks. |
| Sand | A loose granular substance, typically pale yellowish brown, resulting from the erosion of siliceous and other rocks. |
| Silt | Fine sand, clay, or other material carried by running water and deposited as a sediment. |
