Coarse Adjustment Large knob for focusing
Fine Adjustment Small knobs for finish focus
Arm Used to carry microscope
Stage Flat surface where the slide with specimen is placed
Base Bottom of microscope used for carrying
Diaphragm Located in or below stage and changed the size of aperture
Tube Connect the Eyepiece to the Objectives
Aperture Opening in the stage that allows light to pass through specimen
Light Source Light Bulb or mirror under the stage
Stage Clips Used to keep the slide from moving
Revolving Nosepiece Rotates to change the objective and magnification
Objectives Lenses with different magnification ability
Prepared slide a permanent slide with the cover slip glued down over the specimen
Temporary Slide A slide you make and then clean up when finished
Coverslip Thin piece of glass placed over the specimen on the slide
Staining Process of adding dye to the specimen on the slide
Resolution How clear the image appears. Resolution decreased with magnification
Magnification How much the image is enlarged. Calculated by multiplying the eyepiece lens power with the objective lens power.
