Volcanoes

Volcano Occur because its crust is broken into 17 major, rigid tectonic plates that float on a hotter, softer layer in its mantle.
Lava Hot molten.
Magma Hot fluid.
Volcanic ash eruptions and measuring less than 2 mm.
Magma Chamber Is a large underground pool of liquid rock found beneath the surface of the Earth.
Crater Is a large, bowl-shaped cavity in the ground or on the surface of a planet.
Vent Is an opening that allows air, gas, or liquid to pass out
Pipe Is narrow tube made from wood, clay, etc.
Lava Flow Is a mass of flowing lava.
Ring of Fire Is an area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean.
Element a substances that can not be broken down into other substances.
Viscosity a magma that depends upon it silica content and temperature.
Silica the compand is made up of particles of the elements oxygen and silicon.
Pahoehoe Fast moving hot lava that has low viscsity.
AA Lava that is cooler and slow moving.
Compand A substance made of two or more elements that have been chemically combined.
Subduction The process by which oceanic crust sinks beneath a deep ocean trench and back into the mantle at a convergent plate boundary.
Extinct A volcano that is unlikely to erupt again.
Dormant Volcano that can be active now but may become active in the future.
Active A volcano is one that is erupting or has shown signs that it may erupt near the future.
Cider cone Cone-shaped mountain formed from ash,ciders, and bombs.
Dike Forms when magma squeezes between layers of rock and hardens.
Sill Forms when magma squeezes between layers of rock and hardens.
Hot spring Collect in a natural poo
Geyser Is a foundation of water and steam that erupts from the ground.
Caldera A huge hole left by the collapse of a volcanic mountain.B
Batholith Mass of rock formed when magma cooled inside the crust.
Lava Plateau High,level area formed by repeated lava flows.
Composite Volcano Mountain formed by lava flows alternating with explosive eruptions.
Shield Volcano Gently sloping mountain formed by repeated lava flows.
