Skeletal System

Body Planes and Cavities

Vertical Plane up and down
Horizontal Plane Flat, crosswise
3 vertical planes Midsagittal, Sagittal, Coronal
Midsagittal Plane AKA midline, divides the body into equal L & R . (down the center)
Sagittal Plane divides the body into unequal L & R body parts.
Coronal Plane AKA frontal, divided the body into anterior & posterior (front & back)
Transverse plane (horizontal plane) <-----> divides the body into superior & inferior (upper & lower)
Body cavity the space within that body that contains & protects the interal organs.
Dorsal Cavity protects the nervous system and coordinates body functions
Cranial Cavity the brian and spinal cavity
Ventral Cavity contains body organs that mantian homestasis
3 parts of the ventral cavity Thoracic, Abdominal & Pelvic
Thoracic Cavity protects heart & lungs
Diaphragm a dome shaped musculsr fibrous portion that seperates the thoracic & abdominal cavities. Helps a person to breathe.
Abdominal cavity contains organs of digestion
Pelvic Cavity contains organs of reproduction and excretory system (urinary)
ventral/Anterior Front
dorsal/posterior back
superior/cephalic toward the head
inferior/caudal toward the feet
proximal/medial toward the midline
distal/lateral away from the midline
4 regions of the abdomen RUQ, LUQ, RLQ, LLQ
RUQ part of the live, gallbladder, pancreas & intestinal tract
LUQ stomach, spleen, part of liver, pancreas & intestines
RLQ appendix, intestines, reproductive organs & urinary tract
LLQ intestines, reproductive organs and urinary
Nine regions of the thoracic & abdomen R&L hyprochondriac,Epigastric, R&L Lumbar, umbilical, R&L iliac, hypogastric
