| jet stream | a narrow belt of strong winds that blow in the upper troposphere |
| sea breeze | a breeze blowing toward the land from the sea |
| land breeze | a breeze blowing toward the sea from the land |
| Coriolis effect | the apparent curving of the path of a moving object from an otherwise straight path due to the Earth's roatation |
| doldrums | a belt of calm and light baffling winds north of the equator between the northern and southern trade winds in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. |
| westerlies | prevailing winds that blow from west to east between 30 degrees and 60 degrees latitude in both hemishperes |
| easterlies | wind blowing from the east |
| trade winds | prevailing winds that blow northeast from 30 degrees north latitude to the equator and that blow southeast from 30 degrees south latitude to the equator |
| air pressure | is the force exerted onto a surface by the weight of the air |
| northern hemisphere | is the half that is north of the equator. |
| southern hemisphere | is the half that is south of the equator. |
