Punnett square
Punnett Squares (7th grade)

| cross | Represents the combining of male and female sex cells in Punnett squares. (When parents produce offspring.) |
| dominant | Describes a gene that is always expressed because it masks the other gene; represented by a capital letter. |
| genotype | The genetic code of an organism - represented by two letters. |
| heredity | The passing of traits from one generation to the next by means of genes. |
| phenotype | The physical appearance of an organism (based on its genotype). |
| Punnett square | A genetic tool to solve genetics problems mathematically. |
| recessive | Describes the gene that can be masked by a dominant gene; represented by a lower case letter. The recessive trait only appears when both genes are recessive. |
| trait | A distinguishing characteristic based on your genes (such as eye color or hair color). |
| hybrid | A genotype with 1 dominant and 1 recessive gene (like Tt or Bb) |
| purebred | A genotype with 2 dominant or 2 recessive genes (like BB or bb or HH or hh) also known as HOMOZYGOUS |
| probability | The chance or likelihood of something occurring. |
| Homozygous | Genotype with 2 dominant or 2 recessive genes for a trait: like TT or bb |
| heterozygous | genotype with one dominant and one recessive gene for a trait: like Tt, Bb or Rr.-also known as hybrid |
