TermDefinition
gene the section of chromosome that carries a code of particular trait.
alleles alternate forms of trait.
genotype the specific combination of dominant and recessive genes in an orgnism's DNA
phenotype the expression of the genotype in an organism's appearance or body structure.
dominant trait a trait masks the expression of another trait.
recessive trait one that is seen only if both parents give the allele for the trait.
punnett square a model used to predict the possible combination of inherited traits
inherited traits traits that are expredded through genes and can be passed from parents to offspring.
acquired traits characteristics that are gained from environmental influences, injuries, or practiced skills (learned) and are not inherited.
genetic engineering manipulation of the genetic code of an organism to obtain a desired result.
trait a characteristic
offspring the young created when organisms reproduce.
gregor mendel the father of genetics
heredity the passing on of traits from one generation to the next.
genetics the scientic study of heredity and the variation of inherited traits.
purebread both alleles for a trait are the same
hybrid two different alleles for a trait.
