| Term | Definition |

| Evaporation | The process by which water changes from a liquid to a gas, such as water vapor. You need heat |
| Transpiration | A form of evaporation; the process by which plants release water vapor through their leaves |
| Condensation | The process by which a gas (water vapor) changes back into a liquid (water). You need cool temperatures |
| Precipitation | Forms of water such as rain, snow, sleet, or hail that fall from clouds and reach Earth's surface |
| Run Off | Water that flows over the ground surface rather than soaking in the ground |
| Groundwater | Water that fills the cracks and pores in underground soil and rock layers |
| Water Vapor | The invisible gaseous form of water |
| Permeable | When a rock or sediment to let fluids pass through its open spaces, or pores |
| Impermeable | Describes something that does not allow water to pass through it |
| Pores | Tiny openings in and between particles of rock and soil that may contain air or water |
| Aquifer | A body of rock or sediment that stores groundwater and allows the flow of groundwater |
| Water Table | The upper surface of groundwater; the upper boundary of the zone of saturation |
| Spring | A flow of water above ground level that occurs where the water table intersects the ground surface |
| Saturated Zone | Area totally filled with water |
| Artesian Well | A well whose water comes from an artesian aquifer |
| Watershed | The area of land that is drained by a river system |
| Drought | A long period when rainfall is less than average |
| Water Conservation | Conserving water |
