Do you think that the waxy coting protects the cactuses water? Yes
When it finds/gets water what dose it do? The pleats gradually becomes smaller as it collects water. Also, after it finds/gets water it expands.
How do the spins (sharp things on the cacti) protect the cactus from animals and bad wether conditions? It detours animals from eating it and the pleats provide shade.
