| Surface tension | The tightness across the surface of water caused by the polar water molecules pulling each other |
| Capillary action | The combined force of attraction among water molecules and with the molecules of surrounding materials |
| Solution | A mixture in which one substance is dissolved in another |
| Solvent | The part of a solution that is present in the largest amount and dissolved a solute; it DOES the dissolving |
| Evaporation | The process of which molecules at the surface of a liquid such as water, absorb enough energy to change to a gaseous state, such as water vapor |
| Condensation | The process by which a gas, such as water vapor, changes to a liquid such as water. |
| Transpiration | The process by which plants release water vapor through their leaves |
| Specific heat | The amount of thermal energy required to raise the temp of one kilogram of a substance be 1 degrees C |
| Suspension | A mixture in which particles can be - seen and easly seperated by settling or filtration |
| solute | The part of a solution present in a lesser amount an dissolved by the solvent; this GETS DISSOLVED by another substance |
| Freezing point | The temp at which a substance changes from a liquid to a solid 0 C |
| Boiling point | The temp at which a substance changes from a liquid to a gas |
| Cohesion | When water molecules attract to each because of unlike charges (negative to positive) |
| Adhesion | The process of water molecules sticking to other substance |
| Density | The amount of mass in a given space |
| Pores | Tiny openings in and between particles of rock and soil that may contain air or water |
