| Term | Definition |

| Evaporation | Liquid molecules becoming gaseous, e.g water to water vapor. |
| Condensation | Gas becoming liquids on windows, e.g water vapor to water. |
| Transpiration | Plants letting water vapor out of their leaves. |
| Specific Heat | Amount of heat needed to raise a substance by 1 degree Celsius. |
| Freezing Point | The temperature where a substance freezes. |
| Boiling Point | The temperature where a liquid boils. |
| Solution | A mixture in which one substance is dissolved in another. |
| Solvent | The part of a solution that is present in the largest amount and dissolves a solute; it DOES the dissolving. |
| Solute | The part of a solution present in a lesser amount and dissolved by the solvent; this GETS DISSOLVED by another substance. |
| Polar Molecule | A molecule that has electrically charged areas. |
| Surface Tension | The tightness across the surface of water caused by the polar water molecules pulling on each other. |
| Cohesion | When water molecules attract to each other because of unlike charges. (negative to positive) |
| Adhesion | The process of water molecules sticking to other substances. |
| Density | The amount of mass in a given space. |
| Pores | Tiny openings in and between particles of rock and soil that may contain air or water. |
