Adhesion Water molecoles sticking to other substances
Cohesion Water molecoles attract to each other beacause of unlike charges
Density The amount of mass in a given space
Pores Tiny openings in and between particles of rock and soil that may contain air or water
Specific heat The amount of thermal energy required to raise the temperture of one kilogram of a substance by 1 degrees C
Suspension A mixture in which particles can be seen and easliy seperated by settling or filtreation
Solute The part of a solution present in a lesser amount and dissolved by the solvent; this gets dissolved by another substance
Freezing point Temperature at which a substance changes from a liquid to a soild
Boiling point Temperature at which a substance changes from a liquid to a gas
Poar molecule Molecule that has electrically charged areas
Surface tension Tightness across the surface of water caused by the polar water molcules pulling on each other
Capillary action Combined force of attraction among water molecules and with the molecules of suuounding materails
Solution A mixture in which one substance is dissolved in another
Solvent Part of a solution that is present in the largest almost and dissloves a solute; it does the dissolving
Evaporation The process by which molecules at the surface of a liquid, such as water absorb enough energy to change from a gaseous state, such as water vaper
Condensation The process by which gas such as wate rvaper, changes to s liquid, such as water
Transpiration The process by which plants release water vaper through their leaves
