| cleavage | the natural splitting of rocks |
| density | the mass of a substance compared to its volume |
| fracture | a crack or break |
| hardness | the degree to which a material resist being scratched |
| luster | the reflection of light from the surface of a mineral |
| streak | a long, thin line or mark of color |
| lava | molten rock flowing out of volcanoes |
| magma | molten rock beneath earth's crust |
| rock | a mixture of minerals |
| vein | a fracture in rocks containing a deposit of minerals |
| gemstone | precious or semiprecious stone |
| ore | rocks or minerals that are mined |
| ore deposit | an accumulation of ore |
| crystallization | a solid-liquid separation technique |
| igneous rock | formed from cooling and solidifying of magma |
| metamorphic rock | a rock changed in structure by heat and pressure |
| metamorphism | alteration of the composition or structure of rock |
| precipitate | causing a substance to be deposited in solid form from a state or condition |
| rock cycle | a cycle of processes to change rocks from one form to another |
| sediment | earth, silt, rock and other natural materials |
| sedimentary rock | a kind of rock formed by mineral particles with compression |
| sedimentation | the process of depositing minerals and other natural materials |
| extrusive | the formation of igneous rock under earth's crust |
| intrusive | the formation of igneous rock on earth's surface |
| volcanic rock | a rock formed from magma |
| cementation | the harding and welding of clastic |
| lithification | when sediments compact together under pressure |
