Ways That Water is Polluted and The Water Cycle

TermDefinition
Groundwater Water that is found under the ground in the soil.
Water Vapor Water that has been evaporated and become vapor or water droplets.
Source The start of a river.
Runoff Water that has drained away from an area of land.
Fertilizers Salts and chemicals that help plants to grow.
Pesticides Salts and chemicals that keep animals and bugs away and off of the crops.
Herbicides Salts and chemicals that kill weeds so the crops can grow better and faster.
Nitrates Naturally occurring compounds of nitrogen and oxygen.
Phosphates A salt of phosphoric acid found in decaying plant and animal remains.
Algal Bloom A large growth of one kind of algae.
Fish Kills When a large amount of fish are killed in a certain area.
Neuse River A river that is found in NC and we studied about.
River Basin The area around a river.
Condensation When water vapor turns into liquid water droplets and becomes clouds.
Evaporation When water from a body of water is turned into water vapor.
Transpiration The action of plants taking in water throughout the day and then releasing it at night.
Infiltration When water passes through the soil.
Precipitation When the clouds get too heavy and then release what they contain in the forms of rain, sleet, snow, and hail.
pH How acidic or basic the water is.
Dissolved Oxygen Oxygen that get dissolved in water.
Hypoxia Lack of oxygen in water.
Turbidity How cloudy or clear the water is.
