evaporation the process by which water changes to water vapor
infiltration the movement of water from the surface into soil and porous rock
nitrogen fixation the chemical process by which atmospheric nitrogen is converted to nitrogenous compounds that can be taken up by plants
photosynthesis the process by which plants and certain other organisms use the energy of sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into sugar and oxygen
precipitation any form of water that falls from the atmosphere to the surface of the earth
transpiration the process by which a plant loses water to the atmosphere by way of evaporation of water from the plant through the surfaces of its leaves
