Erosion and Deposition- Water and Winds
Term | Definition |

Stream | An active water channel that erodes and transports sediment. |
River | Form on a steep mountain slope and as it forms a variety of features. |
Waterfalls | Occur where a river meats an area of rock that erodes slowly. |
Flood Plains | Flat wide area of land along a river that is often covered when a river overflows during a flood. |
Meanders | A loop like bend in the course of a river and becomes more curved over time. |
Oxbow Lake | Meander that has been cut off from sediments being deposited and damming up the ends. |
Delta | Sediment is deposited where a river flows into an ocean or a lake and builds up a landform. |
Ground Water | Underground water that can cause erosion through a process called chemical weathering forming caves. |
Stalagmites | Formed from deposits in dripping ground water hang on the roof of a cave. |
Waves | Shape coastlines through erosion by breaking down rock and transporting sand and other sediment, erodes land by impact of great force and abrasion, or grinding away at the shore. |
Abrasion | The process of grinding away |
Deflation | The process by which wind removes Earths surface |
Dunes | Piles of wind blown sand |
