Parts of a Cell
| Term | Definition |

| Organelle | "Little organ" or cell part that does a special function in the cell. |
| Cell Wall | Outer layer (strong and rigid) that covers the cell membrane of a plant cell. It provides strength and support to the plant. |
| Chloroplast | A cell part in plants that produces (sugar) food for the cell to use. Photosynthesis happens in the chloroplasts. |
| Mitochondria | Rod shaped parts that create energy for the cell. The "powerhouse of the cell." Uses oxygen and nutrients to make energy. |
| Nucleus | Small, dark center spot in a cell that controls all the cell's activities, including cell reproduction and growth. |
| Cytoplasm | Cell material (clear, colorless, and gooey) inside the cell. All cell parts float in it. |
| Cell membrane | "Skin" or covering of a cell that separates the cell from its environment. It also controls what enters and leaves the cell. |
