Animal Adaptations

| migration | when an animal leaves an area for a period of time but then it returns |
| camouflage | when an animal hides without trying - its body blends in with the environment |
| mimicry | when an animal looks like another animal - the predator thinks that the animal is something else and doesn't eat it |
| hibernate | a sleep-like state - this helps the animal conserve energy in the winter when it is harder to find food |
| instinctive behavior | actions animals do automatically - they just know to do it (breathing, hibernating, migrating) |
| learned behavior | things that animals have to be taught (how to fly, how to hunt) |
