| Cardiovascular System | Consists of the heart, blood vessels, and blood. |
| Functions of Cardiovascular System | Pumps blood through blood vessels. Transport blood from heart to arteries. Exchanges at the capillaries. Regulate blood flow. |
| Types of Blood Vessels (Large to Small) | Arteries Arterioles Capillaries Venules Vein |
| Arteries | Carry blood away from the heart. |
| Arterioles | Small branches of arteries, that can contract to change the amount of blood flowing through them and the blood pressure. |
| Capillaries | The smallest blood vessels. They branch from the arterioles. One layer epithelial cells. |
| Venules | Small veins that drain blood from capillaries. |
| Veins | Carry blood to the heart. The walls have valves that prevent backflow. |
| Normal Blood Pressure | 120 (Systolic) ----------------------- 80 (Diastolic) |
| Myocardium | The major portion of the heart. Consists of cardiac muscle and tissue. |
| Pericardium | A thick , membranous sac that supports and protects the heart. |
| Septum | A wall that divides the heart into left and right halves. |
| Atrium | Upper Chamber of the Heart. |
| Ventricle | Lower Chamber of the Heart. |
| Blood Pressure | The pressure of blood against the wall of a blood vessel. |
| Aneurysm | A ballooning of an artery due to the weakening of the artery possibly caused by hypertension or atherosclerosis. |
| Hypertension | High Blood Pressure. |
| Lymphatic System | Consists of Lymphatic vessels and organs. |
| Functions of the Lymphatic System | Absorb excess tissue fluids and return to bloodstream. Absorb fats and transport to the bloodstream. Responsible for Production, Maintenance, Distribution of Lymphocytes. Defends body against pathogens. |
