| Hot Spots | Places on the Earth's surface that are directly above columns of rising magma. |
| Convergent boundary | The place where two tectonic plates collide. |
| Divergent boundary | When two tectonic plates separate and move away from each other. |
| Crater | A funnel-shaped pit at the top of the central vent in most volcanoes. |
| Caldera | This forms when a magma chamber that supplies material to a volcano empties and its roof collapses. |
