Rock Cycle

Rocks can be a collection of one of more minerals, or it might be made of solid, organic matter
Rocks can be made of inorganic or organic matter
Scientists who study the processes that form and change rock are called geologists (from chapter 1)
The word IGNEOUS comes from the latin term that means "from fire"
How do rocks get broken down into smaller fragments then moved? broken by weathering and then moved by erosion
What processes form existing rock? melting, extreme pressure, extreme heat, chemical and physical weatheirng processes
The word metamorphic means changed form
a rock that forms when existing rock is altered by heat and pressure metamorphic
molten rock (under certain temperature and pressure conditions rocks melts and forms this under ground) magma
rock that forms when molten rock melts, cools, and hardens Igneous rock
rock formed from rock fragments that are compressed and cemented together Sedimentary Rock
molten rock that is exposed at Earth's crust lava
Rocks, mineral crystals, and organic matter that have been broken into fragments sediment
processes which rock forms, changes, and forms again Rock Cycle
