Earth's Atmosphere

QuestionAnswer
Describe the term Atmosphere Air that surrounds Earth and other planets. The atmosphere is a blanket of gases.
Describe the Exosphere The top layer of the Earth´s atmosphere. Beyond the exosphere is true outer space.
Descibe the Thermosphere Lying between 50 miles and 400 miles, the thermosphere leads into the emptiness of space. The air here is very thin.
Describe the Mesosphere With no ozone and little atmospheric pressure, it has the coldest temperatures in the atmosphere, from 0 to –80°C. Meteors from space begin to burn up when they travel through the mesosphere.
Describe the Stratosphere A layer about 7 miles to 30 miles above Earth, the stratosphere is interesting because it contains a layer of ozone.
Describe the Troposphere The troposphere is the lowest layer of the atmosphere, and reaches from 0 to 7 miles. All weather happens in the troposphere. Air pressure is greatest here, too. A space shuttle traveling through the atmosphere would begin its journey in the troposphere.
Describe the Ozone layer Ozone filters out radiation from the sun that is harmful to organisms on Earth. Ozone keeps temperatures in the stratosphere nearly the same for about 6 miles, then they rise.
