Different forms of energy

| mechanical energy | the amount work an object can do because of the objects kinetic and potential energies |
| thermal energy | the kinetic energy of a substance's atom |
| heat | the energy transferred between objects that are at different tempartures |
| Chemical energy | the energy that is stored in a chemical bond |
| electrical energy | the energy that results of the flow of a moving charges |
| electromagnetic energy | energy resulting from the motion of the charged particles within atoms |
| sound energy | energy given off by a vibrating object |
| nuclear energy | the energy stored in a nucleus of an atom as a result of strong nuclear forces |
| nuclear fission | the splitting of a nucleus of a large atom in two or more fragments; releases additional neutrons and energy |
| Nuclear fusion | the combination of a nuclei of small atoms to form a larger nucleus; releases energy |
