| ice wedging | The alternate freezing and thawing of soil and rock |
| abrasion | grinding and wearing away of rock surfaces through the mechanical action of other rock or sand particles |

| animal actions | motion breaks some rocks into smaller pieces |
| water | dissolves the chemicals that make up rock |
| acid precipitation | Rain, sleet, or snow, that contains a high concentration of acids |
| ground water | water flowing through rock, underground (may contain weak acids) |
| living organisms | weak acids made in all living things bodies thing touches rock & acids are transferred rock is weakened and chemical weathering removes rock |
| oxygen | oxygem in the air reacting with metals |
