Forces for 2015 yearly exam

QuestionAnswer
What is a force? A pull, push or twist.
What does force change? the speed, direction or shape of an object.
what are 2 contact forces? buoyancy and friction.
What are 3 non-contact forces? Gravity, magnetic and electrostatic.
What is an unbalanced force? a force where one force is greater than the other.
what is friction? The force between two sliding objects that slows them down.
What is gravity? a force that acts between any two objects.
What effects the size and strength of the magnetic field? The mass of the object.
What is mass? the measurement of how much of a substance there is.
What is mass measured in? Kg
What is weight? The measurement of the gravitational force pulling you down.
What is weight measured on? Neutrons/ N
What can pull an object without touching it? magnets
What do all magnets have? A north and south pole.
What poles of the magnets attract? Opposites.
What are the three metals that are attracted to magnets? Cobalt, nickel and iron.
What is the magnetic field? the area around the magnet where the magnetic force acts.
How are the particles that flow through the circuit charged? negatively
What is an electromagnet? A magnet that can be turned on or off with a switch.
