We Vocabulary Terms

TermDefinition
Martyr- a person who is killed because of their beliefs.
Culling- reduce the population of (a wild animal) by selective slaughter.
autocrat- a ruler with absolute power.
acrid- an irritatingly strong or unpleasant taste or smell.
abhorred- regard with disgust and hatred.
piety- being religious or reverent.
insolent- showing a rude or arrogant lack of respect.
clangor- continuous loud banging or ringing noise.
brazen- bold or without shame.
decree- an order
sentinels- a solider or guard whose job is to keep watch.
allegiance- loyalty or commitment to a person or group.
republic- a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.
indivisible- unable to be divided or separated.
liberty- the state of being free from oppressive restrictions.
totalitarianism- centralized control by an autocratic authority.
