Endocrinology

Hormones

QuestionAnswer
Endocrine is used for communiticating with the rest of the body, its one of two systems.
Hormones come in two major forms: petides/proteins and amins (growth hormone, insultin, oxytocin, epinephrine) and lipid based hormones (steroids, prostaglandins and amines)
Endocrine signaling generic endocrine pathway-diffuse into the blood and trigger a response in the body somewhere
Paracrine signaling diffuse locally parachuting into where needed and tiggering a response in neighboring.
Autocrine signaling secreted to trigger the cells to start secreting themselves.
Synaptic signaling Neurotransmitors diffuse across syanpas and trigger a response in the target tissue, work on neurons, muscles and shit
Neuroendocrine signaling is a neurohormone
Amplification signal-transduction pathways allow for small amounts of a hormone to have a large effect
REceptors are large protein found in the membrane surface or cytoplamic surface or the nuclear one.
Peptide hormones usually act with a membrane receptor because these are water soluble hormones that can't diffuse across the lipid layer
Steroid hormones interact with nuclear receptors, because they are fat soluble hormones and usually have to do with transcription factors so need to got the nuclear region anyways.
Hypothalmus third ventricle of the brain secretes hormones that influence the synthesse and release of pituitary hormones (GnRH, TRH, and dopamine) Goes into the blood vessel system between hypothalmus and pituitary.
Pituitary has two parts the adenohypophysis (anterior) and neurohypophysis (posterior)
Thyroid two lobes in the neck, controls hormones Thyroxine and triiodothyronine which need iodine. Controls metablosim and developement of the nervous system.
Endocrine Pancreas Two hormones produced in Islets of Langerhans (glucogan and insulin)
Andrenal associated with kidneys, produces steroid hormones and plays a major role in stress response.
Andrenal has two parts Andrenal cortex-outer layer, the true endocrine cells, and the andrenal medula which is the central portion
Gonadotrpin stimulates ... and is stimulted by Gonadotropin stimulates the gonads and is stimulated by the FSH and LH
Follicle stimulating hormone stimulates gametogenesis or the growth of follicles in both male and female
Luteinizing hormones stimulates all th steroids needed for girls and boys lubing it up
Prolactin stimulates lacting, who'd have thoght
Oxytocin stimulates contractions, to much can have the reverse effect
Prostaglandins found virtually in all tissues and organs, prostaglandins are in NSAID because block COX aspect of the swelling and inflammation.
