What is the core? what is at the center of the Earth temperature and pressure are very high
What is the mantle? outside of the core is the mantle which makes up most of the Earth's mass
What is the crust? the outer most of Earth's layers it is about 25 miles thick.
What is magma? liquid rock that is within the Earth's surface
What is Lara? magma that has reached the Earth's surface
What are Plate tectonics? explain how forces within the Earth create land forms.
What is Continental Drift? the movement of Earth's plates across the mantle [usually at a rate of about one inch per year]
What are Rift Valleys? formed underwater when tectonic move apart from one another
What are Abyssal Plains? when oceans floors sink because there is no heat below them, there regions are smooth
What are Continental Shelves? the surfaced that extends under shallow oceans
What are Folds? areas of compressed rock that occurs when plates collide with each other
What are Faults? occurs when rock masses have moved apart and broken away from each other
What is weathering? the process by which rocks break and decay over time
What is Sediment? the smaller particles of rock, gravel, sand and mud that weathering breaks rocks into
What is erosion? the movement of surface material from one location to another, wind water and ice cause this to take place
What are Glaciers? thick masses of ice also erode rock and move sediment
What are Plateaus? an elevated flatland that rises sharply above nearby land on at least on side
What are Alluvial fans? sediment eroded from a mountain to the base of the mountain
What is a Delta? accumulated sediment at the opening of an ocean
