monomer A subunit that is part of a whole
chemical reaction Changes substances to different substances by making and breaking chemical bonds
polymer A large molecule made of many monomers bonded together
ion An atom that has gained or lost one or more electrons
product The substances made by a chemical reaction
reactant What enters a chemical reaction
molecule this is two or more atoms joined together by chemical bonds
compound two different elements bonded together
hydrogen bond attraction between a slightly positive hydrogen atom and a slightly negative atom
base A compound that removes H+ ions from a solution
cohesion The attraction among molecules of the same substance
pH A scale that measures the H+ concentration of a solution
enzyme the catalyst for chemical reactions in living things
acid compound that donates a proton (H+) when dissolved in a solution
element substance made of only one type of atom that cannot be broken down by chemical means
