abiotic that which is not derived from living organisms
biosphere regions of the surface, atmosphere, and hydrosphere of the Earth
closed system a physical system that doesn't exchange matter with its surroundings
cryosphere the frozen water part of the Earth system
biotic that which is derived or related to living organisms
human interaction the influence and actions between humans and each other or the environment
meteorology a branch of science concerned with weather patterns in the atmosphere
nuclear fission a nuclear reaction in which a heavy nucleus splits spontaneously or on impact with another particle, with the release of energy
oceanography a branch of science that deals with the physical and biological properties of the ocean
open system a material system in which mass or energy can be lost to or gained from the environment
