| What does the prefix "troph" mean? | to feed or eat |
| What is the difference between matter and energy? | energy flows but matter is cycled |
| Primary Consumers | energy moves to secondary consumers |
| Secondary Consmusers | energy moves to tertiary consumers |
| Tertiary Consumers | energy moves to decomposers |
| Decomposers | matter is cycled back to producers |
| What is a food chain? | a simplified model of energy passing from one trophic level to the next level |
| What is a food web? | a model showing possible feeding relationships that could exsist |
| What does a community at ‘equilibrium’ show? | showing little disturbance or change over time |
| What is Ecological Succession? | change in community due to time and disturbance |
| What is Primary succession? | This type of succession is basically starting from scratch with pioneer species. These species are the first to an area and have the ability to break down rock into dirt/soil. |
| What are pioneer species? | Pioneer species are species which are the first to colonize previously disrupted or damaged ecosystems, beginning a chain of ecological succession |
| What is Climax community? | biological community of plants and animals and fungi which, through the process of ecological succession the development of vegetation in an area over time |
| What is Secondary Succession? | This type of succession starts at the grass area. Soil already exists. |
