What does the prefix "troph" mean? to feed or eat
What is the difference between matter and energy? energy flows but matter is cycled
Primary Consumers energy moves to secondary consumers
Secondary Consmusers energy moves to tertiary consumers
Tertiary Consumers energy moves to decomposers
Decomposers matter is cycled back to producers
What is a food chain? a simplified model of energy passing from one trophic level to the next level
What is a food web? a model showing possible feeding relationships that could exsist
What does a community at ‘equilibrium’ show? showing little disturbance or change over time
What is Ecological Succession? change in community due to time and disturbance
What is Primary succession? This type of succession is basically starting from scratch with pioneer species. These species are the first to an area and have the ability to break down rock into dirt/soil.
What are pioneer species? Pioneer species are species which are the first to colonize previously disrupted or damaged ecosystems, beginning a chain of ecological succession
What is Climax community? biological community of plants and animals and fungi which, through the process of ecological succession the development of vegetation in an area over time
What is Secondary Succession? This type of succession starts at the grass area. Soil already exists.
