Question | Answer |
---|---|
What number is the metric system of measure based on? | 10 |
What is the basic unit of length in the metric system? | Meter |
What should scientists rely on if they cannot obtain exact numbers? | Estimation |
Percent error (calculations) | A way to determine how acurrate an experimental value is. |
What way does a horizontal axis of a graph run? | Left to right. |
What graph has data points that do not fall along a straight line? | Nonlinear graph. |
A system is a what that works together to perform a function | Group |
How many sig figs are in the number 8.0025 | 5 |
What is a group of parts that work together? | A system. |
Median | The middle number in a set of data. |
Density is the measure of how much mass in a given what? | Volume |
What is the curve on the surface of water in a graduated cylinder? | Meniscus |
What is a common tool used to measure length. | A meter stick. |
What would your result be if you had a high percentage error? | The result would be not acurrate. |
Calculate to the correct number of sig figs in the problem 1.2 + 2.55? | 2 |
True or false - To measure the mass a of a small insect, scientists would use a gram or kilogram | False, milligram. |
True or false - SI is a version of the metric system. | True |
True or false - A scientists would most likely use the Kelvin scale to measure daily temperature. | False, Celcius. |
True or false - When multiplyiing or dividing measurements, the answer has the same number of sig figs as the measurment with the most sig figs. | False, fewest. |
How many sig figs are in the number 0.00235 | 6 |
What is the point where the X axis and the Y axis cross called? | origin |
Why can’t you use a ruler to measure the volume of an irregular object such as a rock? How could you measure the volume of the rock | you cannot measure the volume of the rock with a ruler because of its irregular shape. But you can put the rock in water and measure how much the water level rises (water displacement). |
what is accuracy and precision? | Acuracy refers to how close a measurement is to the true or accepted value. Precision refers to how cose a group of measurements are to each other. |
What are the properties of a system, and what is an example of one? | All systems have an input, process, output, and feedback. An example of a system would be a bicycle. |
How do you measure the volume of a rectangular solid? | Length*width*height. |
Estimate | An approximation of a number based on reasonable assumptions. |
Mean | The numerical average of a set of data. |
Mode | The first number that appears most often in a list of numbers |
Range | A set of data is the difference between the greatest value and the least value in a set. |
Linear | A line graph on which the data points yeild a straight line. |
Anomalous data | Data that do not fit in the rest of a data set. |
How do you calculate density? | Mass divided by volume. |
What is the SI unit for temperature? | Kelvin. But it can be degrees celcius. |
How do you make a line graph? | Identify the variables, determine the scale of the graph, number and label each axis, plot the data points, draw the graph, title the graph. |
