Cell Division
Process of Cell Division; Cell Cycle; Reproduction
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| chromosome | The part of a nucleus that holds the genetic material. |
| DNA | The genetic material found in all living cells. DNA has the information a living thing needs to grow, take care of itself, and to have offspring. Deoxyribonucleic acid. |
| cell cycle | The order of events in the life of a cell. How a cell grows, takes care of itself, and divides. |
| cytokinesis | The division of cytoplasm after mitosis. |
| interphase | Part of the cell cycle. It's when a cell grows, takes care of itself, and gets ready to divide. |
| mitosis | A phase in the cell cycle. It's when the nucleus of a cell divides. |
| asexual reproductoin | How a single living thing makes a copy of itself that has the same genes. |
| binary fission | One way a single living thing makes a copy of itself that has the same genes. Some one-celled organisms reproduce this way. The living thing copies its genetic material, splits in half, and makes two cells. Each cell is a copy of the original cell. |
| regeneration | The way some cells make new tissue growth. The new growth takes place at the site of a wound or lost limb; also a form of asexual reproduction. |
