what occurs during an eruption? the gasses separate themselves from the surrounding material when pressure is released, creating individual bubbles and these gasses then move in the direction of less pressure

what is magma? molten/partially molten rock from which igneous rocks form.
what is usually in magma? silicate liquid, carbonate and sulfide melts
what is lava? magma on earth's surface
pyroclastic flow highly destructive, incandescent mass of gas enveloped in volcanic particles
batholith large body of igneous rock formed beneath the earth's surface by solidification of magma
what are the 3 types of volcanoes? shield, composite, cinder
what is the ratio of length to width for a shield volcano? it is very wide volcano but not very tall/long
what is the ratio of height to length for a composite volcano? 1:2
what is the ratio of height to length for a cinder volcano? 1:1

viscosity a measure of resistance to flow, or resistance of a fluid to deform under shear stress

what is the makeup of silicate? SIO4
which type of silicate flows easier? island silicate
how are chain silicates made? decrease energy, bonds made-> chain silicates
what are the four types of silicates involved in magma flow? island, double chain, sheet, framework
felsic rocks are enriched with what? silicates, which makes them lighter
What temperatures are mafic and felsic rocks made at? mafic=high, felsic=low
